Overview

This Level 3 Award is designed to prepare early years practitioners for the vital role of the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo), or to provide valuable support to those currently in this position. This course is offered on demand and runs online over ten weeks.

What Will I Study?

This award aims to give you a strong foundation in key areas, helping you to explore the roles and responsibilities of the SENCo, understand effective strategies and techniques for supporting children and their families, and increase your knowledge of SEN codes of practice. Ultimately, this qualification is designed to help you progress to further and higher education and develop crucial new practical skills in health and social care. To gain the award, you must successfully pass the two mandatory units:

  • Roles and Responsibilities of the Special Educational Needs Coordinator in the Early Years
  • Strategies and Techniques for Supporting Children and Families

Your learning will be assessed via a non-mandatory internal assessment task provided for completion at the end of the qualification; please note that there is no external assessment.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must be 19 years of age or older. While not mandatory, a GCSE in English is recommended.

Progression

Upon successful completion, you will be well-prepared to progress to further and/or higher education. You may consider the Foundation Degree in SEND followed by a BA (Hons) in SEND run at Peter Symonds College. 

This qualification is highly valuable for those interested in pursuing fulfilling careers in areas such as Health and social care, Childhood studies, Social work, Early years, Primary teaching, and Nursing.
