Overview

This 10-week course builds upon basic Greek language skills to develop conversation skills and cultural understanding. Students will expand their vocabulary, master more complex grammatical structures, and engage in basic conversations on diverse topics. The course emphasises practical application through immersive activities and materials.

Homework is given on a weekly basis. To benefit most from the course, you will be encouraged to read the materials used during lessons.

What Will I Study?

In this course, you will:

  • Talk about prices, numbers, and age 
  • Ask for clarification, including the meaning and how to say words
  • Express likes, dislikes, and opinions 
  • Ask for and give information about people (identity and nationality) 
  • Describe people and objects
  • Further explore Greek culture

These lessons help learners move from basic to more confident and practical communication in Greek.

Entry Requirements

Students wishing to join this course would ideally have completed our 10-week Introduction to Greek course or similar. Attendees should:

  • Be familiar with the Greek alphabet and pronunciation.
  • Be able to communicate in simple everyday situations. 
  • Know how to greet others, introduce yourself, and exchange basic personal details such as name, origin, address, telephone number, occupation, and family status. 
  • Be comfortable with numbers, giving simple affirmative or negative answers, and talking about the languages you speak.

Materials

You may need to purchase a textbook, which will be discussed in the first session. You will need to bring a pen and paper for note-taking. Additional handouts and audio resources will be provided to support your learning. Access to a Greek-English dictionary is recommended. . 

Progression

After completing this course, you may progress to the next level, Greek Year 1, where you will further develop your speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in Greek, subject to sufficient demand.
