Ideal for beginners, this hands-on workshop will introduce you to three different printmaking techniques, culminating in a take-home project. Please note that this course is run over two Saturdays (14th and 21st March). At session one, you will be introduced to different printing techniques, such as blotted line, gelliplate and lino-print. You will select your favourite technique and then practice this further at the second session, before creating your own item to take home (e.g. tote bag or t-shirt).
This fun and friendly workshop will give you the opportunity to explore your creativity in new formats, under the guidance of an expert tutor.
What Will I Study?
Throughout the first day, you will get to explore three different techniques, beginning with 'blotted line,' a style famously used by Andy Warhol that combines drawing with basic printmaking skills. Following this, you will learn receive an introduction to lino printing, a relief printing technique based on carving a lino block.
Finally, you will explore the multitude of creative outcomes that can be achieved using gelliplates. Gel plate printing allows you to recreate textures from nature and every-day items, or to transfer printed images such as from magazines or photos. Once you feel confident with these processes, you will be invited to select your favourite method. You will then focus on this during the second session, creating an item to take home (such as a t-shirt, coaster or tote bag).
Entry Requirements
This workshop is aimed towards those with little to no experience in printing techniques or for those with some printmaking experience who would just like to spend some time creating something beautiful in a social setting.
Materials
All printing materials will be provided for this workshop, however you will be invited to purchase tote bags or coasters from the tutor for a small fee to create a take-home item.
