Overview

This course is for adults who have been learning German for a minimum of three years. Students should have a solid knowledge of German, beyond basic tourist conversations and able to communicate regarding with a wide range of topics and contemporary issues in the present, future and past tense. 

What Will I Study?

You will enhance your learning and comprehension using the four language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. You will revise and solidify your knowledge of present, future and past tenses to enable you to communicate with confidence.

Topics will be: 

  • Tourism and how to plan for a holiday, cultural events and 
  • how to suggest, decline a suggestion and how to arrange to meet someone,
  • health and illness and how to express sympathy, worry and hope, 
  • telecommunication and how to express joy and happiness, books and press and how to express interest and lack of interest.

Grammar points: the passive voice, indirect questions, verbs with prepositions,  reflexive verbs and relative sentences.

Entry Requirements

You should have three years’ experience in learning German, or equivalent.

You should be able to:

  • talk about lifestyle, hobbies and giving opinions, as well as German culture.
  • to use the present tense, present perfect, the conditional and the imperfect.

Materials

Textbooks will be discussed at your first session. Please bring a pen and paper with you.

Progression

After completing this course, you may progress to the next level, German Year 5, where you will further develop your speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in German, subject to sufficient demand.
