Overview

This course is for adults who already possess a sound knowledge of the language and want to gain more fluency and confidence, as well as immerse themselves in the Italian language and culture. To join at this level, you should have studied Italian for at least 6 years. 

Homework is given on a weekly basis. To benefit most from the course, you will be encouraged to engage with the notes from the lessons. 

What Will I Study?

  • We will be revising and consolidating the vocabulary and the grammatical structures learned in the previous years. 
  • You will practice all four skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening), expand existing vocabulary and keep revising the grammar you already know.     

You will have an opportunity to: 

  • Read authentic fiction and non-fiction texts. 
  • Practice writing and translating sentences and texts into Italian. 
  • Improve your listening skills by listening to authentic audio and video materials. 
  • Speak in class (through pair /group work). 

Entry Requirements

  • Being able to understand authentic written texts. 
  • Being able to give your opinion on a variety of topics using the Congiuntivo when required. 
  • Being able to write well-structured sentences using a good range of tenses, adjectives and adverbs.

Materials

Please bring pen, paper and a folder. Textbooks will be discussed at the first session. 

Progression

We offer a Semester 2 course in the summer term. It begins immediately after Semester 1 and is an integral part of the course, the exact length of which will be decided in the spring term. After completing this course students can progress to the next level of the language.
