Overview

This course is for adult learners who have completed a full year of Italian study (e.g. Italian Year 1) or equivalent and are ready to move to the next stage. You already have a foundation in the language and can take part in basic conversations, understand simple written and spoken Italian, and use both the present and past tenses with some confidence. 

Homework is given on a weekly basis - to benefit most from the course, you will be encouraged to read the materials used during lessons and refer to the course book.

What Will I Study?

You will practise talking about personal experiences, expressing opinions, and making future plans. Topics will include:

  • Describing people, places, and routines
  • Shopping and travel
  • Making bookings and placing orders in restaurants and cafés
  • Talking about health and well-being
  • Recounting past events and holidays
  • Describing future projects and intentions

Grammar points will include:

  • The present, past (passato prossimo and imperfetto), and future tenses
  • Reflexive verbs
  • Direct and indirect object pronouns
  • Agreement between determiners, nouns and adjectives
  • Useful expressions to link ideas and opinions

Entry Requirements

To join this course, you should:

  • Have completed at least 1 year Italian study or equivalent.
  • Use the present and past tenses in familiar situations
  • Be able to introduce yourself, talk about your daily life, past experiences, and future plans
  • Understand and respond to simple spoken and written texts in Italian

Materials

Please bring pen, paper and a folder. Course books will be discussed at the first session. 

Progression

We offer a Semester 2 that begins immediately after Semester 1 and is an integral part of the course, the exact length of which will be decided in the spring term. You would then be able to progress to the next level.
