Overview

This course is for adults with little or no knowledge of the language. The classes take you through the basics of the language and related culture. You will learn how to communicate in situations that you are likely to encounter as a tourist.

Homework is given on a weekly basis. To benefit most from the course, you will be encouraged to re-read the materials used during lessons and refer to the course book.

What Will I Study?

You will learn in a friendly and fun environment, using a variety of activities and resources to cover:

  • Greetings and pleasantries
  • Introducing yourself and others
  • Ordering drinks & food
  • Asking directions
  • Booking a room in a hotel

The course involves all 4 language skills:

  • Speaking the language in class (including role-play)
  • Reading short texts and answering questions
  • Writing written exercises
  • Listening to the teacher and audio & video material.
  • Grammar work will include the use of the present tense, how to use nouns and adjectives and word order.

Entry Requirements

Materials

Text book will be discussed at the first session. Please bring a pen and paper.

Progression

We offer a Semester 2 that begins immediately after Semester 1 and is an integral part of the course, the exact length of which will be decided in the spring term. You would then be able to progress to the next level.
