Overview

This course is for adults who have only completed one year of French and are keen to continue developing their confidence.

Homework is given on a weekly basis. To benefit most from the course, you will be encouraged to read the materials used during lessons and refer to the course book.

What Will I Study?

You will expand your vocabulary and grammar using all four language skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) on practical topics to enable you to communicate. You will develop the use of the present tense, pronunciation of difficult sounds and vocabulary for describing food, people and places.

We will cover a range of topics, which may include:

  • Talking about yourself – your family, hobbies, activities in the recent past & future plans
  • Continued practice of shopping and restaurant conversations
  • Discovering aspects of French culture – champagne-making, historic gardens, famous festivals…
  • Travel – learning how to communicate in different holiday settings: countryside, mountains, lakes, seaside, Paris… and dealing with problems during travel

You will also be studying the grammar of the language. Some of the grammar points to be studied are:

  • Learning the present tense in full
  • Learning the perfect past tense
  • Using adjectives with agreements and adverbs
  • Getting confident with question formation
  • Continued study of feminine and masculine endings of nouns
