Celebrate the magic of Christmas with our first ever Christmas Writing & Art course, a creative four-week programme designed specifically for adults with learning diversities. It is the perfect space to craft and share your festive stories through speech and writing, while splashing some holiday cheer onto canvas with colorful artwork.
Sessions are 2 hours each and take place in a safe, supportive and tailored-learning environment with a focus to building confidence, self-expression and storytelling skills.
Through an energetic and fun mix of imaginative activities, you will develop core skills in creative writing and art. Together we will let our imaginations soar into the night sky to create beloved Christmassy characters and summon glittering frost worlds of ice and snow so vivid that you will feel the sudden need to wrap yourself up in your warmest winter cloaks!
Over the course of the programme, you will craft your Christmas story with a clear beginning, middle and end. The course is flexible in its approach and offers students specialist pathways for writers and artists, allowing you to develop your skills of storytelling based on your preferred style of expression. Each week includes a workshop where you will have the opportunity to develop and edit your work. You will also have the option to share your creative pieces within the safe and supportive circle of your class.
Above all, the course places creativity at its heart, encouraging you to experiment, play with ideas and discover the pure joy of telling your story.
What Will I Study?
Each week, we will explore festive themes using sensory props, fun storytelling games, and easy-to-follow art techniques.
Week 1: A Character For Christmas
Writers: Create your very own Christmas hero! Will it be a clumsy elf, a mischievous reindeer, or a cheerful snowman?
Artists: Draw or paint your character on paper using bright paints, markers, and fuzzy textures.
Week 2: Winter Wonderland Worlds
Writers: Where does your character live? We will use our five senses to conjure up imaginary lands and places like a cosy gingerbread village or a sparkling ice palace.
Artists: Create a beautiful, snowy background scene using paint, glitter gel pens and collage.
Week 3: The Great Christmas Adventure!
Writers: Something exciting happens! We will write a short, fun adventure about saving Christmas or delivering a special gift.
Artists: Draw an action scene or fill in a storyboard showing your character on their big Christmas mission.
Week 4: The Grand Festive Showcase
Writers and Artists: After a final polish, take the stage if you wish and share your dazzling achievement with the class!
