Overview

This qualification gives learners the knowledge, skills, and competencies to work as an independent life coach in private practice or seek employment within health and social care, advice and advocacy, mentoring, and public services. Accredited by the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB) and regulated by Ofqual, this course provides professional practitioner training mapped directly to the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Coaching Competence Framework. Learners engage in live, interactive teaching - either in-person or via blended learning - to develop essential practical skills, self-awareness, and relational capabilities. 

This course can be paid for by monthly instalments spread across the duration of the programme.

Students commencing study in March 2027 will need to attend the following weekends in person:

  • 6th/7th March 2027
  • 24th/25th April 2027
  • 22nd/23rd May 2027
  • 19th/20th June 2027
  • 3rd/4th July 2027
  • 18th/19th September 2027
  • 6th/7th November 2027
  • 11th/12th December 2027
  • 22nd/23rd January 2028

Additional 1:1 support sessions delivered online on an ad hoc basis. Dates and times will be confirmed between individuals/groups of students and the tutor.

What Will I Study?

  • Ethical Frameworks: Applying legal, ethical, and professional boundaries, assessing clients, and managing independent practice. 
  • Relational Coaching: Establishing, maintaining, and ending life coaching relationships, including navigating breaks and conflicts. 
  • Diversity & Inclusion: Reflecting on social and cultural contexts to enhance empathic practice and widen access to coaching. 
  • Client Development & Flourishing: Helping clients set life goals, boost health and well-being, navigate life stage challenges, and build self-help skills. 
  • Self-Development & Mindfulness: Utilizing personal reflection, creative techniques, and mindfulness to enhance coaching practice. 
  • Theoretical Foundations: Integrating psychological theories, learning models, and philosophical bases into practice. 
  • Reflective Practice & Supervision: Evaluating work through formal supervision, client feedback, and ongoing continuous professional development (CPD). 

Entry Requirements

  • Minimum Age: 19 years or older. 
  • Prior Qualification: Level 3 Certificate or above in a related subject and/or experience working in a helping/coaching industry for example: Counselling, Education, Professional Development and Business. Applications from those in management/supervisory/team leader roles are also very much welcome.
  • Academic & Personal Readiness:
    • Academically and emotionally able to cope with Level 4 practitioner training. 
    • Absence of severe emotional difficulty or active psychological distress. 
    • High level of self-awareness, personal insight, honesty, and emotional stability. 
    • Demonstrated ability to form working alliances, work with diversity, and both give and receive constructive challenge. 
    • Clear motivation to practice as a life coach beyond personal development goals.

Progression

  • Professional Registration: Enables application for Associate Membership with the Association for Coaching during studies and Individual Member status upon graduation. 
  • Career Opportunities: Independent self-employed life coach practice or roles across health and social care, public services, and advocacy. 
  • Further Study: Graduates can progress to higher-level specialised qualifications in coaching.
