Overview

This course is for adults who have done some study of the language before, who have a basic knowledge of Italian and who can cope with basic "tourist conversations" and have studied the language for 2 years or equivalent. 

Homework is given on a weekly basis. To benefit most from the course, you will be encouraged to read the materials used during lessons and refer to the course book.

What Will I Study?

You will expand your vocabulary and grammar using all four language skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) on practical topics.

  • We will be revising the present, past and future tenses and the agreements between determiners, nouns and adjectives.  
  • You will learn how to express opinions 
  • You will have the opportunity to: 
  • Read short texts and complete relevant worksheets.
  • Write short sentences and translate simple texts into Italian.
  • Listen to the teacher and to a variety of audio and video materials.
  • Speak in class (pair/class work and reading aloud).

Entry Requirements

You need to have basic knowledge of the language e.g. Italian Year 2 or equivalent.

Skills you are expected to have to join this level:

  • Being able to understand basic written texts that use the present and the past tenses   
  • Being able to read aloud fairly accurately 
  • Being able to answer some basic questions about yourself

Materials

Please bring a pen, paper and a folder. Your tutor will advise of any necessary materials during your first session.

Progression

Semester 2 begins immediately after Semester 1 and is an integral part of the course, the exact length of which will be decided in the spring term. You would then be able to progress to the next level.
