Peter Symonds College students are celebrating an extraordinary achievement after securing 57 offers from the universities of Oxford and Cambridge, marking one of the college’s most successful Oxbridge admissions rounds to date. The remarkable success reflects not only the academic strength and ambition of this year’s cohort, but also the College’s dedicated pastoral care and personalised support, which underpin students’ confidence and resilience throughout the demanding application process.

At a glance:

  • 25 offers were received to study at the University of Cambridge
  • 32 offers were received to study at the University of Oxford
  • Successful students originated from 27 different secondary schools
  • Symonds students secured offers to study 26 different courses
  • The 57 offers were received from 31 different colleges across the two universities.

Principal, Sara Russell, said: “Fifty-seven Oxbridge offers is a phenomenal achievement and a moment of real celebration for our entire College community. At a time when competition for places at Oxford and Cambridge is fiercer than ever, our students have risen to the challenge with exceptional talent, determination and resilience.

“As a proudly non-selective college, we are passionate about nurturing ambition in every student, whatever their background. We challenge all our students academically while offering a wide range of opportunities beyond the classroom. Many of our staff hold postgraduate qualifications and we provide an extensive programme of subject-specific activities as diverse as the Astrophysics enrichment, the Architects' club and the Law Society. Combined with our award-winning Careers support, everything we do helps students excel. We want them to feel prepared for the most competitive universities and life beyond Symonds.”

“To see so many Symonds students recognised by two of the world’s most competitive universities is both inspiring and deeply rewarding. We celebrate their success wholeheartedly and congratulate them - along with the families and staff who have supported them - on this outstanding accomplishment.”

Peter Symonds Student, Mekan Vasanthakumar, said: “There is an abundance of extracurricular and subject-specific activities that were available, to enhance my knowledge around the subject.”

Symonds Student, Kayleigh Green, said: “I was never going to apply to Oxbridge until my film teacher spoke to me and said I should at least consider it. I wouldn't be here at all if it weren't for her and my tutor.”

Symonds Student, Emma Good, said: “What makes Linguistics so special is the vast range of fields it covers whilst also being quite a niche degree. There is no Linguistics A-level, and at any other college, it would have been a daunting task to apply for this degree.  However, due to the many books provided in the library and the Next Level Linguistics enrichment, I could be sure that a Linguistics degree was the right choice for me. There is so much help on offer at Peter Symonds.”

The number of Peter Symonds students who are offered places to study at Oxford or Cambridge is comparable to leading private and selective schools.  The College regularly features as one of the country’s top five feeder institutes to Oxbridge.

In 2025:

  • 58 students were offered places to study medicine, dentistry or veterinary science
  • 863 Peter Symonds students went to Russell Group universities
  • 1837 students accepted university places.
