Peter Symonds is a vibrant sixth form college in Winchester which has been rated by Ofsted as ‘outstanding’ in every respect. We have a large team of committed and talented staff who are at the heart of the success of the College. 

We are looking for a flexible, friendly and conscientious person to be our Head of Boarding. You will come from a similar environment and be committed to providing the best possible boarding provision to our boarders. You will be responsible for the leadership and management of the boarding operation, supported by a team House Parents, Cleaners and an Administrator. You will be responsible for all aspects of the boarders’ experience, including student recruitment, welfare and discipline. This involves liaison not only with College staff, but also with parents, guardians and external agencies. Other duties include responsibility for health and safety in the area, DSL for boarding, budgeting and, in liaison with our Estates team, ensuring the maintenance of the houses.

 

You will need strong management and leadership skills, ideally refined in an education or residential setting. You will have an awareness of the issues facing young people and the ability to promote a positive ethos in the boarding houses, while also being ready to act decisively in challenging situations. 

 

This is an exciting opportunity to really make your mark, promoting boarding to our prospective students, and ensuring there is a welcoming, supportive, safe environment to complement their academic development.

 

Whilst we would prefer someone who can work every other weekend on rota during term-time, we would be flexible to consider someone who wishes to work Monday to Friday. Please refer to Appendix 1 in the job description for further information about the two options.
