Syamantak was appointed as an Independent Governor in 2021 and is the College’s Adult & Higher Education (AHED) link governor and member of the Curriculum & Quality Assurance Committee. He is Provost and Vice-Chancellor Academic at Sharjah Maritime Academy, UAE, where he leads academic strategy, curriculum, quality assurance, research and engagement with government and industry. Previously, he held senior roles at Southampton Solent University, including Dean of Warsash Maritime Academy, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Knowledge Exchange, and Provost. He helped lead Solent to Triple Gold in the 2023 Teaching Excellence Framework. Syamantak holds a PhD from Cardiff University and has published widely on maritime safety, regulation and labour. Before academia, he spent 15 years in the maritime industry as a tanker Master and shore-based manager.
