Discounted rail travel for students

Winchester Rail Station is a ten minute walk from college. Many of our students travel to and from college by train. We do not recommend that new Lower 6 students purchase rail tickets through the college. The Government has launched the new 16-17 Saver, which gives you a 50% discount on rail fares, including season tickets. This is a much better discount than we can offer.

You can buy your 16-17 Saver at www.16-17saver.co.uk . It costs £30 and is valid for one year or until your 18th birthday, whichever comes first. However, if you buy a Season ticket before your 16-17 Saver expires, you can keep using the season ticket for up to four months after the expiry of the Saver.

You can choose whether you buy daily tickets, weekly tickets, or a season ticket for a full half term or term, but the greatest savings will be made on tickets that are valid for the longest period.

To buy a season ticket with your 16-17 Saver:

Go to South Western Railway’s website: www.southwesternrailway.com

Select Train Tickets from the menu at the top of the page, and Season Tickets from the drop down menu. Select Buy a Season Ticket.

You can now enter the dates you would like the ticket to be valid from and to. When you tick the Railcards box, a drop down option will appear and you can select 16-17 Saver. The 50% discount will then be applied to the ticket.

You will need to carry your 16-17 Saver, or your digital saver app on your phone alongside your season ticket.
