Study Support Team

An intrepid team from Peter Symonds Study Support Department have braved the wind and driving rain to climb over part of the iconic O2 Arena in London, to raise money for the local charity, Bishops Waltham Gateway.

The team consisted of Joy Hill (Study Support Administrator), Sarah Gibson (Head of Study Support), Chris Costidell (Learning Support Assistant) and Steve Mullins (Study Support Co-ordinator), together with Joy’s son David, who regularly benefits from the charity and Joy’s husband Andrew.

Bishops Waltham Gateway is a club for adults with learning difficulties, who aim to provide a fun and safe environment for all of their members. Events the charity run include discos, games, group outings, Full Christmas Dinner Evening with a visit from Santa and much, much more.

After much anticipation, David and his team embarked upon the challenging climb, made even more perilous by the terrible weather conditions. Through the driving rain and winds, every member of the team made it across to the other side in one piece. Said Joy Hill: “It was an exhilarating experience and a good opportunity for team bonding, in encouraging each other on the climb. The weather conditions were appalling, which made it an even greater challenge.” The team raised a brilliant £965 in sponsorship for Gateway, which will go a long way in helping the charity meet the needs of their users.

Peter Symonds staff and students embark upon a huge amount of charity fundraisers and challenges throughout the year. From regular cake sales to holding quiz nights and dances, the College are proud to be contributing to the local community and further afield.
