Careers Team with Award

Peter Symonds College Careers department have fulfilled the necessary criteria for the fourth consecutive time since 2008 - to retain their Investor in Careers Quality Award.

Emma Gotts from Hampshire County Council and Councillor Peter Edgar, Executive Member for Education at Hampshire County Council presented the award to Debbie and her team at a formal plaque presentation.

“We are incredibly proud to award this to the PSC Careers Department, who have demonstrated that every person that comes to Peter Symonds matters.” Says Peter Edgar, “Students can leave Peter Symonds in the knowledge that they have made the right career choice, and that has been made possible by this strong and highly motivated staff team.”

The careers annual cycle includes Peter Symonds largest event, the Progression Fair, which has been running for the last two years and has nearly 100 exhibitors. Other events include Careers Week, HE talks, a Gap Fair, as well as guest speakers from industry, universities and businesses – both local and national.

“The department organise a varied programme of events throughout the year to ensure all students are aware of the options open to them once their studies here at sixth form are complete,” adds Head of Careers Debbie Mahoney. “We have a large Careers Team at the College who are really motivated and keen to ensure all students make informed decisions and move onto positive destinations.”

Students can drop into the department, during College hours, to use the wide range of facilities – to explore potential career avenues, book individual career advice sessions or check out job opportunities. Parents too are kept in the loop and invited to attend relevant talks about HE options, UCAS applications and university funding procedures and they are also welcome to come along to the various evening events run by the College.
