Members of ‘A Company of Fools’ student theatre company at Peter Symonds College, recently delivered another exceptional production of an original play entitled ‘The Babushka’ written by college student, Jake Mace. Over 60 Peter Symonds students showcased their talents to sell out audiences at each performance. The play was directed by the students and the music was composed by student Madeline Ashman.

Student playwright, Jake Mace said, "The Babushka was a show that our cast and crew could be truly proud of. It was very surreal for us as directors to sit back and watch as characters that we had written be brought to life by such exceptional actors; the world we envisioned be created by an extremely talented group of technicians and the awesome accompanying music, written by Madeline Ashman, be performed by a live band. Audiences laughed, cried and sat mouths agape and the overwhelming support we received from those who attended felt truly deserved by everyone in the company.

"Being a part of the leadership team of ‘A Company of Fools’ has been one of the most eye opening, challenging and incredible experiences I've had and I'd do it all again in a heartbeat. I hope that now another group of budding dramatists at Peter Symonds will take up the mantle and create another great show. The future looks bright for us however, as a group inside the company are hoping to take a new show to the Edinburgh Fringe this summer." Also, as a result of taking part in The Babushka, one student has applied and been offered an audition at the Royal Academy of the Dramatic Arts (RADA).

In its fifth year, ‘A Company of Fools’ student theatre company is run as an extra-curricular activity at the College. As testament to its growing success as an amateur theatre production company, previous students from the group have been recognised in the Daily Echo Curtain Call Awards 2016 with three nominations; Chris Campbell for Best Actor in a Youth Production, Oliver Smith for Best Director of a Youth Production and Youth Ensemble Award.
