Personal Tutor

The Personal Tutor is a key person for each student. All Tutors will fulfil the following responsibilities for their tutees:

• Know each student in the group as an individual; keep a watchful eye over them, and refer them on to the Lead Tutor or other support service if the need arises.
• Communicate important information to the students.
• Monitor attendance and punctuality on a weekly basis and activities enrolment.
• Monitor progress, mainly through progress reviews and one to one interviews.
• Support students through the Tutorial programme and General studies.
• Guide with initial careers and Higher Education advice and help with the university application process/job seeking.
• Write a reference in collaboration with subject teachers.

Lead Tutor

The Lead Tutor in each Faculty supports Tutors and sees students who need extra advice or guidance.

The Lead Tutor will:

• Follow up persistent absences and/or lateness
• Discuss and advise on changes of course
• Contact parents if the College has concerns about a student
• Respond to parents’ concerns
• Deal with any more complex problems that may arise

Head of Faculty

The Head of Faculty has both a curriculum and a pastoral responsibility. Very few students will see their Head of Faculty unless there are real difficulties or serious areas of concern.

Child Protection

We recognise that we play a large part in safeguarding and promoting students’ welfare.Where we have concerns about students’ safety or well-being we will do our best to help and support them, but there might be situations where we may need to pass these concerns onto the local Children’s Services Department, as students will be under 18 years of age throughout most of their time at College.

A range of personal support is available to students from the Student Services Department, the Counselling Service, Careers Department and Study Support as well as their Personal Tutor.Connexions Advisors are also available in College to see students.
