The Leisure department is thrilled to announce that we have introduced a brand new Woodwork for Beginners course, which is now open for booking!

Participants will learn the basics of woodworking, including essential techniques and tool usage, enabling them to create small, functional items for the home and garden. The course begins with a comprehensive introduction to workshop health and safety practices; students will learn how to operate tools and machinery safely, the importance of personal protective equipment (PPE), and best practices for maintaining a safe and organised workspace. Students will also be shown how to mark out wood accurately, cut, join and assemble, as well as learning how to finish wood to a high standard. You can find further information and a full course outline here

The course was introduced in response to feedback from current students, a number of whom indicated they would be interested in learning basic woodworking skills. We are always looking to introduce new leisure courses and our Heads of Curriculum (Anna & Kay) are always keen to hear your views on current courses or suggestions for new ones! You can contact Kay & Anna at ahedleisure@psc.ac.uk.
