Course Content

This exciting and contemporary practical Media course offers specialist pathways in digital content for interactive media, and moving image and audio production. By selecting this course you will be committing yourself to a two-year course that will lead to a diploma equivalent to two A-levels.

You will learn exciting new practical skills and knowledge in preparation for further study, Higher Education or the workplace. Designed in collaboration with experts spanning the breadth of the Creative Media sector, the Cambridge Technicals in Digital Media focuses on the skills, knowledge and understanding that today’s universities and employers demand.

Year 1

In Year 1 units studied will include:

  • Understanding media products and audiences
  • Pre-production and planning
  • Creative Media Production
  • TV and short film production
  • Social media and globalisation
  • Radio Production

Year 2

In Year 2 units studied will include:

  • Creating audio-visual promos
  • Visual and special effects
  • Cinematography
  • Advertising Media
  • Pitching a media product

Methods of Teaching

The units are completed with a combination of study approaches including classroom teaching, investigations and practical work done independently and in production groups.You will have extensive practical training in camera, audio and editing techniques and you will work on industry-style briefs with the opportunity to put theory into practice.

Methods & Patterns of Assessment

Through a combination of external examinations (3 units) and coursework (8 units). You will have the opportunity to re-sit the examinations if required. Coursework portfolios will include research, analysis, pre-production and production work. The final outcome will be in the form of a double Pass, Merit or Distinction grade following the success in all the required units and will carry UCAS points.

None. All specialist equipment and resources will be provided by the college.

Where Could It Take Me?

You will finish the course with a professional audio-visual show-reel designed to impress any potential employer in the Creative Industries and/or gain you access onto a practical based Media Production course at higher education. Career possibilities include TV/Film production, advertising, PR, marketing, programming and video game design.

5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including Maths and English.
