PETER SYMONDS COLLEGE | BOARDING

BOARDING

Boarders studying outside Falkland LodgeThere are two boarding houses at Peter Symonds College: Falkland Lodge and School House which are both co-educational. Both houses are on the campus itself. Falkland Lodge was opened in September 1998 and provides accommodation in single or twin-bedded rooms while School House is a handsome Victorian building in which students share 2, 3 or 4 bedded rooms.

As a boarder you will meet students from a variety of backgrounds. Many have parents in the Forces and the College provides sixth form education for the Falkland Islands. Some students will have spent many years in boarding and others will have come to it for the first time.

The accommodation in each house is centrally-heated and well-maintained. There are common rooms with televisions, DVD players and even a Wii. The houseparents live in the houses and are supported by other houseparents, part-time tutors and other assistants.

You will eat together in the College dining room and may also make snacks in the houses. You will do your own personal laundry and look after your own financial affairs. You are free to go away at weekends as long as appropriate arrangements are made. The boarding houses are closed during College holidays and half-term holidays.

The regulations are simply those necessary to enable the smooth running of a large 'family' and to encourage academic work. During the working week the houses are kept quiet for study from 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm. You will be expected to return to the houses by 10.20pm and to be upstairs and quiet by 10.30. (Exceptions occasionally being made when really necessary). At weekends you may stay out later. Visitors are welcome at certain times.

Please note that special admissions conditions apply for our limited number of boarding places, please see our boarding admissions policy for more information.

Prospectuses and application forms are available for September 2011 entry. Please submit these applications as early as you can. We strongly advise you to submit application forms to us before 17 September 2010. If you do, we will aim to arrange your interview to coincide with the College's Open Evenings on either Thursday 14 and Friday 15 October 2010. At the Open Evenings you will have the opportunity to talk to teachers and students, see the campus and find out about other aspects of college life. It will certainly give you a good appreciation of what to expect from sixth form life. Please keep these days available. The final deadline for applications, however, is 22 October 2010.

Please download our boarding leaflet for more information on admissions and boarding life.

The College is not a licenced Sponsor for overseas students under the new points-based immigration system. Essentially this means that if you do not already have the right to be in the UK, we cannot consider an application from you.

The boarding provision at the college was recently inspected by Ofsted. The inspection report is now available online as a PDF document.

Fees for 2010 are £9,822 per year for School House and £10,536 per year for Falkland Lodge. Fees for 2011/12 will be published in due course.
