The ACE Centre offers German, French, Italian and Spanish classes at different levels. All our language courses are for adults, and attract students from 18 to over 80.

LANGUAGE OPEN EVENING

Come and speak to the tutors, who can give you advise on which level is most suited for you.

• Basics for holiday
  These 10 week courses are for absolute beginners and offer a basic introduction to the language. You will learn phrases and vocabulary that will be useful on holiday.

• Year 1 - Beginners
  These 25 week courses take you through the basics of the language and related cultures. You will learn how to communicate in situations that you are likely to encounter as a tourist. You will also learn the basic grammar, so that you have a solid foundation to build on in further years.
  
  You will complete a portfolio with written work which will lead to a collegecertificate. In class you will be encouraged to speak the language.

• Year 2 – Advanced Beginners
  These 20 week courses are for adults who have done some study in the language before.You should have a basic knowledge of the present tense to start these classes. Group work and pair work will be used to encourage conversation. In this year you will learn to talk about the past.
  

• Year 3 – Intermediate
  These 20 week courses are for adults who feel confident using the present tense and have some knowledge of the past tense(s). You will improve your communication skills, talk about the past, present and future and learn how to express anopinion.
  

• Year 4 – Upper Intermediate
  These 20 week courses are for adults who can use the past, present and future. Newspaper articles and other authentic texts will be used to expand your vocabulary and knowledge about the countries where the language is spoken. Other tenses such as the conditional and subjunctive will be introduced.
  

• Year 5 – Upper Intermediate
  These 20 week courses are for adults who have studies the language up to upper intermediate level. They are a continuation of the year 4 classes and likewise use authentic texts and lots of conversation to expand vocabulary and cultural knowledge. At this level all tenses will be used.
  

• Advanced (conversation)
  These 20 week courses are taught by native speakers and arefor adults confident in speaking the language,who want to practice it and extend their knowledge about the countries where the language is spoken. Lots of conversation will be used, together with student presentations and some work on improving your grammar.
  

After all 20 week courses we offer the possibility of an extension of the course. The price and duration of the extension will depend on student interest and will be decided in March or April of the current academic year.
